I'd invented a time machine. Unexpectedly,

Looks like the Time Machine project is working well...

Quote of the day

We have an empty desk, where one of the dearly departed used to sit.  He left us a couple of months ago.  The phone rings.

Chris: Jeez, why is that phone ringing?  I hope it's not his wife...

You can’t make this stuff up

I was accidentally in the cafeteria this morning, filling up my water bottle, when the event started.

I stuck it out for a few minutes, but I had to leave when Mr. Goodyear called us AGRA.  Twice.

Nothing but the best, folks.

Fossils!

Canada's Minister of State for Science and Technology, Gary Goodyear, will be at SuperMegaCorp today.  It still baffles me that our Science Minister doesn't believe in science.  But then again, our Finance Minister doesn't believe in economic reality either...

So in honour of Mr. Goodyear's visit, let us entertain ourselves with the humour of the outstanding Lewis Black.

Is it wrong?

Is it wrong for me to wish ill-will on the peckerhead who does wheelies on his motorcycle in the parking lot at work?

Nothing fatal – I’m not an asshole – but it would be nice to see him dump the bike and suffer a few broken bones and a wrecked motorcycle, at the very least.

Rick Mercer Report, season 8 premiere

Tomorrow night is the Season 8 premiere of the Rick Mercer Report.  We were lucky enough to score tickets to the taping Friday night, and were seated in the front row.  The show was hilarious as usual.

The highlight for me was the ad for the Lie Sack.

Things they DON’T teach in MBA school

If you are running a meeting, and want to keep the participants happy and the meeting moving right along… bring a bowl of jujubes or Twizzlers with you, and set it down in the middle of the table.

Quietest meeting I’ve been to in a long time.  Lots of slurping noises, but little dissent.

Welcome to my world

We had a wardrobe malfunction this morning.  The six-year-old wanted to wear her skort with the zipper in the front.  It is meant to be worn with the zipper on the side.

No amount of logic would sway her.  My wife finally called in the big gun.  The nine-year-old fashionista sashayed into the room, took a look at the skort, lifted it to see the shorts underneath, and announced her verdict.  The zipper shall be worn on the side.

The six-year-old freaked out.

I ran to hide in the basement with the cat.

Pile on many more layers, and I'll be joining you there

Sitting at my desk, trying to debug a nasty crash.

There's a crowd of about a dozen people all around me.  At least three separate conversations are taking place.  Some are work-related.

The largest group is huddled around a speaker phone, all shouting at the same time.

Tell me, how often do I wander over to the project/product managers' work area and wake them during their afternoon naps?  The correct answer is... never.

Elmira and District Curling Club Open House

You watched it on TV.  You cheered like crazy when when we won the Silver medal, and damn near cheered your ass off when we won Gold the next day.

You found it fascinating.

Perhaps you said to yourself, "Self, I'd LOVE to try that!"

Or maybe your kids have been pestering you to let them try the coolest winter sport since skeleton.

Now's your chance!

The Elmira and District Curling Club is holding an Open House the first week of October.  Come out Wednesday October 6 or Thursday October 7 (or both), from 7:00-9:00pm.  Certified instructors will be on the ice to show you the ropes, and you can play a mini-game to see how much fun this really is.

For kids aged 7 to 19, there is a Junior Curling program which runs Sunday afternoons.  Kids are welcome to attend the October Open House nights too, where they can throw some rocks and find out more about the program.

Questions?  Fire away...

First day of school

First day of school... first school bus I see has its lights flashing while picking up some kids, and someone flies past without stopping.

That sure didn't take long.

Inverhuron Provincial Park - September 2010

We spent a windy, mostly rainy Labour Day long weekend at Inverhuron Provincial Park.  We arrived Thursday, and with bad weather in the forecast we sprinted through setting up, so we could get some beach time in.  The water was surprisingly warm, and the waves were up enough to play in.

Friday was still nice, and we were swimming most of the day.  On Saturday, the wind and the rain picked up, and the waves were menacing.

Sunday was nicer - warmer and sunny again, and the waves were back down to "not dangerous".
