I had the great pleasure of coaching a team from St. Teresa of Avila school in Elmira at the 2012 Timbits Elementary School Provincial Curling Championship in Parry Sound last week. 80 teams from across Ontario competed in sixteen pools. The pool winners advanced to a playoff round where they split into four divisions.
Our team struggled with the superfast ice in the Bobby Orr Community Centre arena, and lost our first three round-robin games. We improved each game though, and were never discouraged. Our final game was played in the Parry Sound Curling Club, on a more familiar ice surface. We played an outstanding final game, and finished with a draw that covered the pin to score three, and a 9-2 final.
It was a great experience for everyone involved, and we're lucky enough to have two members of the team eligible to return next year, when the event will be held in Gananoque.
Lots of photos here.
