Last fall I attended a two-day coaching course put on by the Ontario Curling Association. It was part of the process towards becoming a certified Competition Coach. Certification is required for coaching a team in any OCA competition starting next season, and coaches are required for any Junior team.
The second part of the certification process in an online ethics exam, which I passed in February.
The final part is an on-ice evaluation of a practice. An evaluator watches a minimum one hour practice and runs down a checklist of coaching technique and behaviours.
I completed the on-ice evaluation last Sunday, and heard back from the OCA on Friday - I am officially certified!
