Tuesday men's league

Another weird one in last night's championship game, as we tried to defend our title from last year...

Started with the hammer due to our win in the Page 1-2 game. Not typically our strength, although this year it has gone well - we've usually scored a couple in the first end.  Not last night - Skip airballed a hit against two, and we were out of the gate down 2-0.

Second end we had to draw to a rock in the back four foot.  Skip was wide and heavy, bounced off it and gave up another.  Through two ends, Skip was pitching a shutout - 0%.

Third end looked like more of the same.  They had one buried in the four foot on our Skip's first.  He asked if we should peel a guard or try an angle runback.  I voted runback.  He ran it in and rolled buried behind a corner.  They tried to bury a draw but it hung out in the open, and we nosed it for three.  Tie game, 3-3!

Fourth end we put the pressure on.  They had a double through a tight opening, but it over curled a bit and they rolled out, giving us a steal of two, to make it 5-3.

Fifth end they hit and rolled a few inches too far and we stole one more, to make it 6-3.

Sixth end we piled five rocks into the four foot.  Their skip threw as hard as he could, and got four of them out.  Terrific shot, almost close enough to measure, but another steal of one.  Now 7-3.

Seventh end we made a slight mistake on the last shot and it didn't quite curl enough. They had a tough runback double for three, which would have left us up one coming home with the hammer.  The runback ended up sticking on our rock in the four foot, and we stole one more.

Handshakes - final score 8-3 for us.  They never scored a point with the hammer the whole game, and we only did once, in the third end.  Our Skip was 0% for the first two ends and 100% the rest of the way.

And that's it for the curling season for me, except for a coaching job next week at the Timbits.
