Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

This is cool.

Like (almost) everything else on the Internet, best experienced in Chrome.

Give it a try - see if you can beat these.

This is a photo I did not take...

Of a Mennonite horse and buggy, trotting down the street in Elmira yesterday afternoon, towing a flatbed utility trailer with a cherry red canoe lashed to it.

Conversation of the day

We went to the Waterloo Rec Complex last night, to watch an evening of folk dancing put on by a number of local schools.  We've gone to this a few times now, but this was the first time that both girls were dancing.

As usual, it was an excellent show.  The only downside was the two boys sitting behind us who were having a farting contest.  Kid #1 picked a quiet moment to let a huge one rip.  Kid #2 started giggling and said, loudly, "Dude! You're supposed to hold it in!" and then ripped one of his own.  This went on for a few minutes, and I was just about to turn around and punch their lights out when the show ended.

On our way out we glanced at the clock.

J: Oh, we missed the Big Bang Theory finale.  Good thing we recorded it.

Me: We can watch it tomorrow night with a glass of champagne.

J: Champagne?  Why champagne?

Me: It's our anniversary.

J: It is?  That sneaked up on me.

Yup, after twenty-one years, I still got it.  She looks at me, her knees go weak and she forgets things.  Either that, or it was the fumes from the kids behind us.

Aw, snap!

Google is so helpful...

My web app crapped itself today.

I was curious what "these suggestions" would lead to...

One glaring omission from their list seems to be "stop fucking with the CSS of your web app".

Envy is the bond between the hopeful and the damned

The windows are being cleaned today here at SuperMegaCorp.  It's a very muscular process - a guy is using a squeeqie attached to a sixty foot pole to reach the third floor windows from ground level.

We're all sitting here watching him and thinking, "poor bastard."  Meanwhile, he's outside on a sunny day watching us and thinking, "poor bastards."

A movement is accomplished in six stages

Oracle's VM VirtualBox is a handy piece of software.  It lets me run IE6 in a virtual machine, so I can test our web app in all its IE6 glory.

I was prompted to install an update today, so I did.  Part of the install warned me that some applications needed to take a nap so the update could complete.

Which applications?

Of course...
